　　正值抗日战争最艰苦的时期，普通农民吴应德（何政军饰）从日寇的活人实验中侥幸逃生，并由此加入八路军。在一次行动中，吴用自制的怪枪射杀敌军头目，其造枪才能和果敢胆识得到八路军修械所厂长任如坚（张光北饰）的认可，遂将吴招至麾下。在厂里，他结识了队长罗克绳（李成儒饰）、神枪手柳宝（范雷饰）、兵工专家杨墨（羿坤饰）、游击队长姚芳（陈丽娜饰）、女医生江燕（李依玲饰）等各有所长的同志。大家齐心协力，共同投入优良兵器的研发和改进。而与此同时，以谷野正雄（马卫军饰）为首的日寇殚精竭虑寻找修械所所在，急于将八路军的蓬勃力量扼杀在萌芽中。
