故事围绕90年代时代转型背景下，老舅下岗后动用自己的智慧和才能，开启了一系列靠谱或不靠谱的“搞钱”故事。为了满足女儿崔梦的愿望，许诺买夏利车；答应姐姐，带大她的儿子二胖；仗义替入狱的好友郭大炮照顾他女儿小雪且承诺一定为她父亲申冤等。伴随着孩子们的成长和情感羁绊，众人之间有纷争、有委屈，有离开，有回归，最终老舅实现了对所有人的承诺。围绕中心人物“老舅”呈现一部让观众笑着哭、哭着笑的现实主义年代轻喜剧。
此剧讲述了一伙行走在城乡接合部的城市边缘人物，他们有严格的内部纪律，人员分工明确，只骗不偷，他们甚至瞧不起小偷，认为小偷没有艺术含量，只是靠三只手泊来不义之财的走兽而已。几年前，赵宁（赵宁 饰）的父亲就是被骗子骗光所有财产，最后债台高筑被迫自杀，赵宁决定以其人之道还治其人之身，于是小小年纪涉入险恶江湖，集世间各种骗术之大成，组成了一个诈骗团伙。赵宁和小宝（杨羽 饰）、冬冬（邢冬冬 饰）、黎伟（黎伟 饰）和安宁（安宁 饰）形成了一个缺一不可的五指连环，游走在城市的大街小巷、车站码头，钱对他们来说不是问题，问题是他们不知道明天的路在哪......

Will the lies tear them apart or are they just stubborn enough to stay together forever? Drunken outbursts and double standards abound in this dark comedy about the sad and funny messes we make out of our lives. Cal’s best friend Kathy (Constance Wu) is always there for him with a bottle of whiskey in her purse, but she has her own problems with her nice guy boyfriend Ian (John Halbach), even if they’re all in her head. Stephen Guarino guest stars as a party promoter throwing one last bash before the apocalypse.
