《康熙微服私访记2》沿袭该剧借古讽今、针贬时弊的新派古装轻喜剧作品风格，分为“馒头记”、“桂圆记”和“霞帔记”三个单元故事组成。“馒头记”里讲述康熙五十年，康熙（张国立饰）正值微服私访时居然被当地豪强骗进金矿做苦工；“桂圆记”发生在康熙五十一年，康熙抱病，宜妃（邓婕饰）让三德子（吴军饰）请太医为其诊治，病情反而加重。原来都是假药作祟，康熙愈后出宫，严惩不法之徒；“霞帔记”里讲述康熙五十二年，康熙大义灭亲，整治裙带关系。 经典古装电视连续剧《康熙微服私访记》，自1997年至2007年已有五部作品出品。这五部作品一直延续该剧系列的作品风格，亦庄亦谐中既描摹出康熙在微服私访中的平易近人，又把他严惩贪官的威武一面刻画得入木三分。该剧系列的前四部由张国立自导自演，第五部由孙树培导演执导。
